Description

Clagganghoul is a picturesque, asymmetrical cottage from the mid-19th century, located by the roadside. It features distinctive detailing and is constructed from pink and grey coursed granite, with some hoodmoulds and deep timber bracketed eaves.

The roof has a half hipped shape on the east side, a gable on the south, and a piended roof on the north. On the south elevation, there is an off-centre advanced gable that includes a central slated gabled entrance porch supported by granite columns, featuring a flattened ogee-arch opening. The entrance has a two-panel half-glazed timber door and four small round openings linked by a Greek cross at the apex. To the right, there is a tripartite window with timber mullions.

The east side has a canted bay window with timber mullions and transoms, and there is another bay on the west side. The cottage has timber casements with diamond pane glazing on the east and south, as well as timber plate glass casement windows on the east. The roof is covered with grey graded slate, and there is a gable stack featuring two square-plan shaped stacks with canted bases and decorative coping. The rainwater goods are made of red painted iron.

Inside, the floorplan remains largely unaltered, with a timber door leading to a tight curved stair that ascends to low, coomed attic rooms.
