Description
Clunie Cottage is a mid-19th century former dower house designed in a picturesque style. It is a single storey and attic building with an asymmetrical five-bay layout, featuring a projecting gable entrance porch and a slate verandah supported by rustic timber columns on the south, or principal, elevation. To the north, there is a single storey weatherboarded former Estate Office. The exterior is finished with pink painted harl and grey granite dressings, and the cottage is located on the south side of the River Dee.
The building has deep, overhanging bracketed eaves and grey granite hoodmoulds above some windows. At the rear, there is a canted bay window topped with a castellated parapet and distinctive polygonal chimney stacks. The fenestration is diverse, including bipartite plate glass windows with timber mullions and transoms on the north side, some timber sash and case windows on the south, and a small arched window with timber diamond panes also on the south. The roof is covered with grey graded slate, and ridge stacks feature paired or triple octagonal flues on coped bases, along with cast iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the original floor plan remains largely intact, featuring a slender timber dog-leg stair.
