Description
Alltdourie Cottage is an early 19th century single storey and attic former factor's house. It features five bays and has dormers that break the wallhead, along with deep eaves. The building is constructed of coursed pink rubble and is oriented to the south, offering a wide view across the River Dee to Braemar. Notable architectural elements include a distinctive central bowed porch and outer bowed bays with tripartite windows on the south elevation. The north elevation has crow stepped dormerheads, while the west elevation features a verandah with a slate roof supported by rustic timber columns.
The cottage has predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows and cast iron rainwater goods. There are two wallhead stacks on the north side that rise from the ground, and two ridge stacks on the south. The roof is covered with grey graded slate and includes some octagonal chimney cans, with an M-pile piended design that bell-casts on the south elevation.
Inside, the original floorplan is mostly intact and retains numerous original features, including servants' bells, working timber shutters, and six-panel timber doors. The southern part of the house has an enfilade of rooms, and there is a distinctive long narrow hall along the horizontal axis. Decorative Georgian timber chimneypieces can be found throughout, and the northern part of the house features four-panel timber doors.
Additionally, there is an ancillary structure, which is a single storey, three-bay hut painted in weatherboard located to the north. This hut also has timber sash and case windows.
