Description
South Lodge at Mar Lodge is an early 19th century single-storey gate lodge with a small square plan designed in a classical style. It is constructed from pink granite ashlar and features an eaves cornice. The lodge has a prominent pedimented portico supported by two Doric columns, with steps leading up to it at right angles. The entrance includes a six-panel timber door topped by a simple rectangular fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there are windows set in segmental arched recesses that have keystones, although these are now painted harl.
The windows are timber sash and case, with configurations of 12 panes over 2 panes and 2 panes over 2 panes. The roof is piended and covered with slate, featuring a central stack that is coped.
Access to the interior was not possible during a visit in December 2005.
