Description
South Lodge to Swillington Park is a gate lodge built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with the roof concealed by a parapet. The building has a rectangular plan and is single storey, designed in a classical style. The south-west corner features a colonnade that forms a rectangular internal porch, supported by three square columns and anta, leading to a plain doorway. To the right of the porch is a pilastered bay that contains a sashed window. On the left side wall facing the road, there is a similar window framed by coupled pilasters, and continuing along this wall are two additional sashed windows. The lodge has a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a high parapet, with two chimney stacks on the roof.
