Description
East Lodge at Belleville House is a mid-19th century gate lodge, possibly built using parts of an earlier cottage. It is a single-storey, symmetrical structure facing west, featuring three bays. The exterior is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar stone.
The central entrance door is framed by a gabled porch, which is supported by a pair of facetted and a pair of rustic painted wooden columns, possibly with re-used Corinthian capitals. The gablet above the porch has decorative carving.
On the north and south gables, there are keystoned round-headed windows with multi-pane glazing. The lodge also has decorative barge-boards, a coped ridge stack at the center, and a slate roof with projecting eaves.
The entrance is marked by later 19th century square ashlar gate piers with chamfered angles and corniced caps that support ball finials. These piers are connected by cast-iron railings to similar end piers. There is also a pair of carriage gates from around 1946 that match the railings and feature an inscription.
