Description

West Lodge in Dunachton is a single-storey cruciform gate lodge built around 1869, likely designed by John Rhind. The structure is made of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. It features a crowstepped entrance porch with a round-headed doorway located in the southwest re-entrant angle. The south and west gables have tripartite windows, each with a central square light above the transom and small square lights in the canted angles. The windows have horizontal glazing. The gables are crowstepped and finialled, and the building has a coped ridge and end stacks, topped with a Banffshire slate roof. To the right of the entrance porch, there is a mural plaque with a cat carved in low relief.
