Description
This is an early 19th century, east-facing single-storey, three-bay cottage located within the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage is constructed of white-washed rubble, with a later single-bay timber-boarded extension that is continuous with the south gable. The central door is masked by a painted, weather-boarded gabled porch; a small four-pane casement window is to the right, and a diminutive window is to the left. End stacks are present, and the roof is covered in corrugated iron. The weather boarding and timber extensions are typical of constructions in Speyside, reflecting the abundance of sawn timber for building. The corrugated iron roof replaced an earlier thatched roof. A stack at the north gable appears to have replaced a thatched "lum," which served a former canopied hearth. The cottage now functions as a hostel for a mountaineering club.
