Description
South Lodge at Closeburn Castle is an early 19th century single-storey classical gate lodge. It has an L-shaped plan and is constructed of polished red ashlar stone. The west elevation features three bays, with a central porch that has a pediment supported by two Roman Doric columns. The outer bays contain 12-pane sash windows. There is an eaves course, a single ridge stack, and a piended roof covered with graded slates.
On the south elevation, there is one window and a bipartite window, both featuring 12-pane sashes, with the latter linked to the eaves band. The entrance is marked by polished red ashlar corniced gatepiers topped with caps. The inner piers are octagonal and connected by low coping to square outer piers. The entrance is completed with plain wrought-iron gates and railings.
