Description
The Venison Larder at Balmoral Castle, designed by J & W Smith in 1850, is a circular building. It features a harled exterior with a stugged ashlar granite base and lintel band courses, along with ashlar dressings. The entrance includes a panelled door set in a recessed surround, flanked by arrowslit windows that are gauze screened, with additional arrowslits around the building's circumference. Above the lintel course, there are eight clerestory lights. Antler trophies are displayed at intervals along the walls. The building has timber bracketed overhanging eaves and a conical slate roof topped with a polygonal louvred timber ventilator, which has a leaded swept pagoda cap and finial.
