Description

Late 19th century. 3-storey tenement on corner site with shops at ground floor. Red ashlar, slate roof. Slightly altered shopfronts at ground floor, corniced fascia; moulded lintel course to 1st floor; moulded cill course to 2nd floor; dentilled wallhead course; mostly single windows with moulded jambs, plate glass sash and case glazing, some with unsympathetic modern frames; moulded and coped stacks.

QUARRY STREET ELEVATION: bay to chamfered angle at left, door to ground floor with round-headed fanlight, pilastered doorpiece, 5-light canted window to 1st and 2nd floor, balustraded parapet with ball-finialled dies and aedicule with clock; 3 bays to right, channelled masonry to 1st floor, 3 windows (bipartite to centre) with segmental heads within figured frieze, 3 windows to 2nd floor, panelled masonry treatment; 3-light canted oriel window to far right at 1st and 2nd floors with finialled facetted roof.

JOHN STREET ELEVATION: 2 doors, 3 large blocked windows, 2 small windows to ground floor; 3-light canted oriel window to left and 5 windows to right at 1st and 2nd floors; 2 wallhead stacks to right (1 cut-down). INTERIOR: not seen.
