Description

143-145 Quarry Street is a late 19th century, three-storey tenement building located on a corner site, featuring shops on the ground floor. The structure is constructed of red ashlar with a slate roof. The shopfronts on the ground floor have been slightly altered and include a corniced fascia. The first floor has a moulded lintel course, while the second floor features a moulded cill course. A dentilled wallhead course is present, and most windows are single with moulded jambs and plate glass sash and case glazing, although some have been replaced with modern frames. The building also has moulded and coped stacks.

On the Quarry Street elevation, there is a bay at the chamfered angle on the left side, with a door on the ground floor that has a round-headed fanlight and a pilastered doorpiece. Above this, there is a 5-light canted window on both the first and second floors, and a balustraded parapet with ball-finialled dies and an aedicule featuring a clock. To the right, there are three bays with channelled masonry on the first floor, three windows (with a bipartite window in the center) that have segmental heads set within a figured frieze, and three additional windows on the second floor with a panelled masonry treatment. A three-light canted oriel window is located at the far right, extending to both the first and second floors, topped with a finialled facetted roof.

The John Street elevation includes two doors, three large blocked windows, and two small windows on the ground floor. There is a three-light canted oriel window on the left side and five windows on the right side at the first and second floors. Additionally, there are two wallhead stacks on the right, one of which has been cut down. The interior has not been seen.
