Description

169 Quarry Street in Hamilton is a late 19th-century, three-storey tenement located on a corner site that includes a shop and a public house on the ground floor. The building is constructed from red sandstone ashlar with stugged and snecked cream sandstone rubble on the gable. It features a slate roof adorned with terracotta ridge tiles and finials. The ground floor is channelled and corniced, while there is a moulded cill course on the first and second floors and a corniced wallhead. The windows have architraves, and the first-floor windows are topped with corniced lintels, featuring plate glass sash and case glazing. There are two shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks that rise through the eaves, with coped stacks located elsewhere.

On the Quarry Street elevation, there is a three-light canted window on the first and second floors to the left, which has a panelled apron on the second floor and a facetted roof. To the right, there are two windows on the first and second floors, and a canted bay similar to the left, angled to the right.

On the Avon Street elevation, there is a single and a bipartite window on the first and second floors to the left, while to the right is number 3 Avon Street, which features a door, a single window, and a bipartite window on the ground floor, along with two single windows and a bipartite window on the upper floors.

The interior of the building has only been seen in the public house, which does not contain any special features.
