Description
166, 168, and 170 Quarry Street in Hamilton is a three-storey tenement building designed by Alexander Cullen around 1904, showcasing the asymmetrical 'Glasgow style'. The building features a cream sandstone ashlar façade and a slate roof. Notable architectural elements include a partially corbelled cornice at the ground floor, a wallhead course, and corniced stacks topped with uniform terracotta cans.
The windows are a mix of single, bipartite, and canted designs, with sash and case glazing; the lower sections have plate glass, while the upper sections consist of 4 and 6-pane windows. However, the second floor has modern frames that do not match the original character. The ground floor includes a round-headed close door with a fanlight and a consoled segmental canopy on the right side, along with three altered shopfronts. The first floor features a cornice bipartite window, while the second floor has a pedimented bipartite window with a decorative apron. Outshot stacks rise from the ground floor cornice through the wallhead, with single windows on both the left and right sides. The far left has a prominent 4-light canted window with a coped crenellated parapet, and the far right has a similar 3-light window.
The interior has not been seen.
