Description

Late 19th century. 3-storey, 4-bay, bowed, classical tenement with shops at ground, on corner site. Ashlar. Ground floor cornice, 1st and 2nd floor cill courses, eaves cornice and balustrade, Architraved windows; heavy, consoled segmental pediments to 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: ground floor with modern timber door to centre, 2 small shops with deep-set doors in bays to left, further shop to right with deep-set door to outer right and 2 display windows to left; single windows

to centre bays and bipartites to outer bays at each floor above, shouldered wallhead stack and flanking balustrade.

NE CORNER: door (altered to window) with flanking pilasters and decorative scrolled consoles to dentilled cornice above, single window to 1st and 2nd floors with balustrade above.

N ELEVATION: 5 irregular display windows at ground with fascia over, 3 windows (grouped 2-1) to each floor above and 2 shouldered wallhead stacks with linking balustrade.

Plate glass glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows except to 2nd floor E at centre and left bays with modern glazing. Coped and shouldered ashlar stacks.

INTERIOR: shop interiors at Nos 52 and 54 retain decorative plasterwork cornicing (some obscured).
