Description

52-58 Vicar Street is a late 19th century, three-storey, four-bay classical tenement located on a corner site, featuring shops on the ground floor. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and includes a ground floor cornice, cill courses on the first and second floors, an eaves cornice, and a balustrade. The windows are architraved, with heavy, consoled segmental pediments above the first floor.

On the east elevation, the ground floor has a modern timber door in the center, flanked by two small shops with deep-set doors on the left and a further shop on the right with a deep-set door and two display windows to the left. The center bays have single windows, while the outer bays feature bipartite windows on each floor above, complemented by a shouldered wallhead stack and a flanking balustrade.

The northeast corner has a door that has been altered to a window, flanked by pilasters and decorative scrolled consoles beneath a dentilled cornice. There is a single window on the first and second floors with a balustrade above.

On the north elevation, there are five irregular display windows at ground level with a fascia above, and three windows (grouped as two and one) on each floor above. This elevation also features two shouldered wallhead stacks connected by a balustrade. The building has plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows, except for the second floor on the east side where the center and left bays have modern glazing. The stacks are coped and shouldered ashlar.

Inside, the shop interiors at numbers 52 and 54 retain decorative plasterwork cornicing, although some of it is obscured.
