Description
Late 19th century. 3-storey, 6-bay, classically-detailed tenement with shops at ground. Stugged, squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. Deep stone fascia and ground floor cornice, moulded 1st floor cill course and mutuled eaves cornice. Keystoned, moulded, round-headed pend and tenement doorways; fluted Ionic dividing pilasters to all shops at ground; architraved windows, those to 1st floor pedimented, those to 2nd floor aproned. Stone mullions.
NW (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: shop window with roller shutters to off-centre left bay at ground; flanking round-headed keystoned doorways, that to left with modern part-glazed timber door and decoratively-astragalled fanlight, that to right to pend with 'CROSS BUILDINGS' on fascia above. 2 traditional shopfronts (interiors converted to 1) to right of centre with outer fixed display windows, and in-canted part-glazed timber doors with deep plate glass fanlights and mosaic tiled floors to centre. 2-bay shop to left of centre with bipartite fixed display window to outer left and further display window with in-canted door to left in bay to right. 1st and 2nd floors each with bipartite windows to bays 1, 3 and 6, remaining bays with single windows.
NE ELEVATION: windows to outer right at 1st and 2nd floors.
4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows to principal elevation. Slated. Coped ashlar stacks with full complement of cans; ashlar-coped skews; cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers and fixings.
INTERIOR: stone staircases with cast-iron barleytwist balusters and timber handrails.
