Description

28 Nethergate in Kinghorn is an 18th-century building that was reconstructed in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with an attic, featuring a three-bay, L-plan design. The building is part of an irregular terrace and is situated on ground that slopes steeply to the southeast. The exterior is harled with stone margins.

On the northeast elevation facing Nethergate, there are three windows on each floor, with the first-floor windows being larger. A pedimented stone dormer window, which breaks the eaves, is located on the outer left, accompanied by a crowstepped gable beyond.

The northwest elevation, which faces Harbour Road, has a gabled bay on the outer left. This bay includes a tall window on the left side at the first floor and two small attic windows above. To the right, there is a lower bay with a tiny opening on the outer right.

On the southwest elevation, there is a small first-floor window to the right of centre, set within a low crowstepped gable that features a broad stack on the left pitch.

The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has been altered and includes a variety of elements such as a corbelled square projecting oriel window on the first floor and a stone forestair in the re-entrant angle at the centre.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the fixed windows have small-pane glazing. The roof is covered with concrete pantiles, and the stacks are harled with cans, featuring ashlar-coped skews.
