Description

38 Nethergate in Kinghorn is a house dated 1774, featuring two storeys and an attic, with a rectangular plan and two bays. It is part of an irregular terrace and is situated on a steeply sloping site to the southeast. The exterior is harled with painted margins.

On the northeast elevation, there is a boarded timber door located in the bay to the left of the center, with a window to the right. The first floor has two tall windows, and the attic contains two small pivot windows. There is a truncated gablehead stack.

The southeast elevation, facing St Clair's Entry, has a central bay with a door at ground level and a forestair leading from the right to a first-floor door, which features a plate glass fanlight and a carved lintel inscribed with '17 DG AS 74'. To the right of the center at ground level are two windows, and to the left is another window with a low pend entrance to the outer left. The first floor has one window to the right and two to the left of the center. A timber dormer window is positioned over the bay to the right of center.

The northwest elevation is mostly adjacent to the rear of Nos 34-36, but it includes a segmental-headed pend opening to the outer right. The windows throughout the building are primarily 4-pane and plate glass in timber sash and case style, except where noted. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there is a harled stack.
