Description
The building is an early 20th-century post office located at 20-22 Brandon Street in Hamilton. It is a three-storey structure with five main bays and two additional lower bays, featuring classical detailing. The exterior is finished in tooled red ashlar, while the rear is constructed of brick. The front has a piended slate roof with a ridge ventilator.
Architectural details include a moulded cill course on the ground, first, and second floors, and a corniced parapet with balustraded panels. The ground floor has round-headed top-hopper windows, with an acroterion motif on the transom of the central and centre-right windows. The other windows are architraved sash and case, with plate glass on the bottom and multi-pane glass on the top. The first-floor windows are adorned with alternate pedimented and segmental panels.
On the front elevation, there are five bays on the right side, with three windows in the center and two keystoned round-headed arched doors that have been blocked as windows in the outer bays. These doors are set within a pedimented doorcase featuring pilaster strips and composite capitals. The first floor has five windows, while the second floor has seven windows. To the left, there are two bays with two windows on the ground, first, and second floors.
