Description

Peat and Duncan of Hamilton, 1878-9. 3-storey and attic

tenement occupying wide gushet site. French renaissance.

Polished ashlar mostly channelled at 1st floor, modern

shops at ground; some sculptured ornament, particularly

at eaves; 2nd floor windows mainly roundheaded;

pedimented wallhead dormers. Symmetrical elevation to

Quarry Street has 3 pilastered bays, 2-storey shallow

canted window central above ground floor, fishscale

slated dome above, with scalloped flashings and iron

cresting, set back behind pair wallhead stacks flanking

attic window; paired windows in outer bays. 5(2+3) and

3(2+1) bays respectively to Brandon Street and to Lamb

Street, plainer detailing to bays nearest west. Window

sashes or casements. End and wallhead stacks. Cornice;

low parapet, pierced by attic windows; slated French

roof with leaded platform.
