Description

The building is an early 20th century post office located at 24 Brandon Street in Hamilton, formerly known as the Hamilton Herald building. It is a three-storey, three-bay structure with classical detailing, constructed from red ashlar. The building features channelled angle pilasters on the first floor and a steeply-pitched green slate roof that is pyramidal on the left and right, topped with a weathervane and spike finials.

The second floor has a plain frieze with decorative curvilinear panels on the outer bays, and there is a wallhead frieze with decorative corbals. The balustraded parapet has angle dies on the outer bays, and the windows are architraved with plate glass sashes and case frames.

The front elevation is slightly asymmetrical. The ground floor has a modern front, while the first floor features a four-light canted window in the center, a single window with a pilastered architrave and pediment that rises through the wallhead, and slightly advanced bays on the left and right. The left bay has a bipartite window on the first and second floors, while the right bay has a single window on both floors.

Inside, there is a First World War marble memorial panel dedicated to members of Hamilton Post Office.
