Description

Style of A Lindsay Miller; dated 1882. Board school with gothic details; long single storey front to Greenlees Road with basement to left in slope, advanced ends - gable right, range to left with square tower (slated spire within parapet over plain square stage which may originally have been louvred), doorway, stepped stair lights, gabled window head; 3 gabled window heads to inner range. Stugged ashlar, polished dressings, transomed/cross-windows, blind cusped panels, some sculptured detail, inscription in roundels at either end; sash windows; individual slate roofs with axial ventilators, stacks with fluted friezes. Iron-railed low boundary wall to street links advanced outer ranges. Flank to Tabernacle street built in 2 stages; original part left with main doorway, gated steps (also 1882 datestone above); addition is 2-storeyed; at lower level of slope, 8 bays; pend left at junction with original block, off-centre door; original detailings repeated, simplified, but with cross windows and sculptured detail; rear courtyard, arcaded mostly blind wide basement openings to origianl range, timber-clad passageway supported on cast-iron columns and linking the 2 main ranges.
