Description
The building is a 1903 Masonic lodge situated on a sloping ground to the north. It is a two-storey, five-bay, roughly rectangular structure built with snecked bull-faced red sandstone, with the rear rendered. The exterior features red-sandstone ashlar dressings exhibiting neat, squared tooling on a diagonal, alongside deep moulded base and cill courses. A deep corniced eaves course is present on the east (principal) elevation, while the north, west, and south elevations have a plain eaves course. Corniced windows are featured on the ground floor.
The east elevation has central paired windows, and pedimented and pilastered doorways to the penultimate bays. The right-hand pediment is carved with a Masonic symbol, while the left-hand pediment displays the date "1903." A small window is positioned to the right of the right-hand door, with single windows to the outer bays. The first floor has paired windows to the central three bays, and single windows to the outer bays. An inscription below the eaves reads: ‘CAMBUSLANG ROYAL ARCH LODGE 114’.
The north elevation has a central narrow window at ground floor level. The west (rear) elevation features an advanced piended stair tower on the far right, a door to the left return, and a later 20th-century brick-built fire escape staircase on the far left. The rear elevation’s fenestration is regular but largely blocked, with a single window and doors to the far left. The south elevation includes a wallhead cant, a centrally recessed bay with a rounded stair tower window, and flanking windows at ground and first floor levels, which are now blocked.
The windows are metal-framed with 2 and 3 panes. The roof is pitched and piended, covered with grey slates and terracotta ridge tiles, and includes corniced ashlar stacks and circular clay cans.
The ground floor has been subdivided and converted in the later 20th century into a bar and dining facility, with a kitchen located to the southwest of the plan. A principal staircase is positioned to the southeast, featuring a dentilled and corniced stairwell and carved timber balusters. A round-arched stained glass window on the stair landing depicts Lodge No 114 symbols. The first floor's Temple Hall has a platform piended ceiling and geometric plaster mouldings. A balustraded raised platform faces north, featuring a central segmental-arched recess with a keystone and flanking pilasters. Windows on the west side have been converted into glazed display cases.
