Description
Ashley is a small, symmetrical cottage built in the later 19th century. It is a single storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan. The cottage features stone gabled dormers on either side of a central porch, which is made of stone, timber, and glass. The windows have a distinctive lying-pane glazing pattern and are made with timber mullions. The eaves and dormer details are supported by timber brackets and have overhanging features with timber finials. The walls are constructed from whinstone rubble, with sandstone quoins adding to the character.
The windows have the same lying-pane glazing pattern, complemented by horizontal top lights. The entrance doors are half-glazed and made of timber. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles and has ornamental ridge tiles with two holes. There are single squared ashlar ridge stacks that have plain clay cans.
