Description
The Cottage in Lamington is a mid-19th century, two-storey house designed in an estate style with an L-shaped plan. The first floor extends beyond the eaves and features three bays. It has gabled timber dormers adorned with bargeboards and cross bracing, along with a distinctive margined, diamond-pane glazing pattern. The windows are sheltered by pentice canopies supported by console brackets. The exterior is constructed from whinstone rubble, complemented by droved red sandstone quoins and window margins. There is a lean-to, slated open timber porch on the side.
The principal elevation showcases timber and lead margined diamond-pane glazing, while the rear features various patterned and plain timber casements. The eaves are overhanging and bracketed, with bands of plain and fishtail grey slates. A central ridge stack is quadruple and angled, with part-shafted flues topped with decorative clay cans. The property also includes cast-iron rainwater goods.
