Hawthorn Cottage, Lamington

Tinto View Cottage, dated 1847, is a single-storey estate cottage with an attic floor that breaks the eaves. It has a rectangular plan with two bays and features an adjoining single-storey, L-plan cottage known as Hawthorn Cottage, which extends to the rear. There is also a 20th-century flat-roofed addition that forms a rectangle. The cottage has gabled stone dormers with splayed edges and ball finials, pointed finials on the main gables, and a prominent corniced quadruple flue ridge stack with octagonal clay cans. The walls are made of rubble with sandstone quoins and chamfered window margins, and there are pentice canopies over the principal windows. A later addition includes a four-bay angled, slated box dormer at the rear.

The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, with timber mullions. The roof is covered in grey slate. The skews are chamfered ashlar with bracketed skewputts, and the building features cast-iron rainwater goods.
