Description
This building at 3 Bruce Crescent in Ayr is a single-storey and attic, three-bay house dating from the later 19th century. It has a near-rectangular shape and is constructed of ashlar stone, with rubble on the sides and red ashlar dressings. The design features a base course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and raised quoins. Scrolled brackets support the cills, and the margins around the windows and doorpieces are raised to create pediments, with rosette detailing enhancing the overall appearance.
On the northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central entrance with a step leading up to a timber door topped by a letterbox fanlight. There are single windows on either side at ground level, and pedimented dormers are located at the outer left and right in the attic.
The windows are four-pane timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone skews and double-height corniced stacks at the gableheads, topped with polygonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998. Surrounding the property is a coped boundary wall that encloses the site. To the outer left, square-plan gatepiers mark the vehicular entrance, which has modern gates and railings. A single gatepier to the right indicates the pedestrian entrance.
