Description
7 Citadel Place in Ayr is a pair of mirrored houses built in the later 19th century. They are two stories tall and have six bays, constructed from painted coursed sandstone, with the west elevation exposed. The design features a base course, eaves course, cornice, and strip quoins, along with architraves and cill blocks around the window openings.
On the north (entrance) elevation, there are steps leading to two central entrances. These entrances have cavetto-splayed, round-arched, corniced doorpieces that are mutual to both houses, featuring block-pedimented consoles, timber doors, and fanlights. Above these doors, there are two single windows aligned at the first floor, and the outer bays have regular fenestration.
The windows are four-pane timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews, coped gablehead brick stacks, and both circular and polygonal chimney cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1998. Additionally, there is a two-leaf iron gate to the outer right, which is mutual with Nos 15 and 17.
