Description

8 Citadel Place is a later 19th-century, two-storey and attic house that is part of a seven-bay short terrace. The terrace features two bays for Nos 8 and 10, and three bays for Nos 12 Citadel Place and 1 Montgomerie Terrace. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and render, with a base course, eaves course, corniced blocking course, and pilastered, block-pedimented, mutuled corniced doorpieces. The window openings have architraves and small cill blocks.

On the south elevation, Nos 8 and 10 are designed as a mirrored pair, each with steps leading to central doorpieces that feature timber doors and letterbox fanlights. Above these doors, there are single windows aligned at the first floor, with regular fenestration in the remaining bays, including a gabled attic dormer to the outer right of No 8. No 12 has a central entrance with a single window above and regular fenestration in the flanking bays.

The west side elevation consists of three bays, with a stepped, railed platt leading to the central entrance of No 1 Montgomerie Terrace. This entrance has a two-leaf timber door and a single window aligned above at the first floor, with regular fenestration in the flanking bays.

The building predominantly features four-pane timber sash and case windows, although No 8 has modern glazing on the upper floors. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes rooflights, stone skews, a coped gablehead, and central ridge stacks with polygonal cans.

The boundary walls, gatepiers, and railings include a coped boundary wall enclosing the site, square-plan gatepiers at the entrances to Nos 10, 12 Citadel Place, and 1 Montgomerie Terrace, as well as iron gatepiers and railings leading to the stepped platt at No 1 Montgomerie Terrace. There are both vehicular and pedestrian entrances to the high boundary wall of No 1 Montgomerie Terrace.
