Description

2 Craigie Avenue in Ayr is a late 18th century single-storey, three-bay former gate lodge. It is constructed from painted sandstone rubble, with some areas droved. The building features a base course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and pilaster angles.

On the north elevation, there is a central doorpiece with a pediment and pilasters, featuring a round-arched, keystoned entrance with a glazed timber door and fanlight. Flanking this are single windows that are architraved and corniced.

The west elevation, facing Gordon Terrace, has an over-arch leading to a Venetian window in an advanced pilastered return to the left, with blind sidelights. To the right, there are single and bipartite windows in a recessed section.

The east side elevation includes a bipartite window in a recessed section to the left and an over-arch to a Venetian window in an advanced pilastered return to the right, also with blind sidelights.

The south elevation was not visible in 1999. The building has timber sash and case windows, mostly modern, and a slate roof with pitched stacks and circular cans.

The gatepiers consist of square-plan structures at the central pedestrian entrance, with an iron gate. The entrance elevation features a painted waved wall, and there is a coped rubble wall with railings along Gordon Terrace.
