Description

The Morrison Congregational Church, located on George Street in Ayr, was built in 1779 with additions and internal alterations made by JA Morris in 1901. This former church is a two-storey, four-bay rectangular structure designed in a severe classical style and finished with harled walls.

On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a two-leaf timber door set in a recessed single bay added in 1901, topped by a broken segmental pediment. A projecting lamp fitting is positioned above the door. To the left of the entrance, there is a small single window, and above it, a fanlight opening is located at the first floor. The central gabled bay features two round-arched openings, with a moulded notice plaque within. Single windows are found flanking the central bay on both the ground and gallery levels to the outer right and left.

The east elevation, facing Limonds Wynd, includes two single windows in the main building, along with a square-headed entrance and flanking single windows in the single-storey, piend-roofed section added in 1901 to the outer right.

The north and west elevations were not visible in 1999. The building has boarded window openings and a slate piend roof with a platform, complemented by a harled wallhead stack and a circular can. It also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999. Additionally, there is an ornate two-leaf art nouveau gate with railings at the south elevation.
