Description

The Church Hall on Main Street in Dunlop was built in 1845, with a later addition at the rear. This two-storey, rectangular-plan building was originally a Free Church and features a gabled roof with a bellcote, a clock, and hoodmoulded windows on the south (principal) elevation. The south elevation is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone, while the rear and sides are made of random rubble, with ashlar dressings. The openings on the south elevation have raised margins and roll-moulded hoodmoulds, and the side windows have droved ashlar margins.

On the south elevation, there is a later two-leaf timber boarded door at the center, with a bipartite mullioned window above it. The gable apex features a square clock face with scooped corners, and the slightly baroque-style bellcote has round-arched openings and a finial topped with a weather vane. Flanking the door are two tall windows.

The east and west elevations each have tall windows arranged in three bays, with later additions to the north. The building has non-traditional uPVC windows and is roofed with graded grey slate, featuring ashlar-coped skews.

Inside, there is a lobby with stone stairs leading to a gallery. The main hall includes a timber gallery, which is now boxed in, supported by two cast-iron columns. The hall also has timber-boarded panelling to the dado and two small stained glass windows dating from 1933.

The property is enclosed by a low sandstone boundary wall with ashlar coping, above which are cast-iron railings, and there are two-leaf cast-iron gates.
