Description

This building is a former Free Church manse dating from 1847. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring hoodmoulded windows and a small gabled ancillary building attached to the south gable. The exterior is made of coursed, stugged, painted sandstone with sandstone ashlar dressings, while the sides are finished in painted roughcast. Notable architectural details include a base course, eaves course, raised quoin strips, and raised window margins with hoodmoulds. The entrance consists of a two-leaf timber panelled door, hinged at the center, set within a double-chamfered architrave and topped with a hoodmould. The building has regular fenestration, and the small single-storey ancillary building, possibly a former washhouse, features a door and window on the west elevation with plain margin architraves and a decorative gablehead stack.

The building has non-traditional uPVC windows, ashlar-coped skews, and corniced stacks with yellow clay cans, all under a roof of graded grey slate.

Inside, there is a tiled entrance lobby and a half-glazed timber panelled inner door with frosted glass. The staircase is adorned with decorative cast-iron balusters.

The boundary wall at the front is constructed of random rubble, complemented by ashlar gatepiers that have panelled sides and corniced caps.
