Description
2 George Street in Ayr is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay building located on a corner site. It features commercial premises on the ground floor and is part of a terrace. The exterior is made of painted coursed sandstone, with a base course, eaves course, cornice, and blocking course.
The first-floor windows have architraves. On the northwest elevation, there is a glazed timber door to the right and shop windows to the left, with regular window spacing on the first floor. The southwest elevation, which faces the river terrace, has a large shop window on the ground floor to the left and three smaller shop windows to the right, with the first-floor windows spaced wider than those on the northwest elevation.
The ground floor shop windows feature lying-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes corniced wallhead and gablehead stacks with polygonal cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
