Description

Newton-On-Ayr New Church, built in 1862 by William Clarke, is a three-bay Gothic church with a nearly rectangular plan and an octagonal tower on the outer right. The church is constructed of squared sandstone and features a base course, string course, band course, blocking course, and buttresses that divide the bays. Arched colonnette recesses are present within the structure.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has an advanced central gabled entrance bay with a gabled entrance porch that contains a timber door and tracery above. A blind colonnade flanks the entrance, and a traceried rose window is positioned above it. Flanking buttresses rise to form pinnacles, with a traceried window in the recessed bay to the left and a single window in the recessed bay to the right. The three-stage octagonal tower on the outer right features arched colonnette recesses at the first stage, a blind central bay at the second stage, and leaded arched openings at the third stage.

The church predominantly has rectangular and arched windows, including some sash and case windows at the rear, with coloured margins and some leaded work, although modern exterior windows have been added. The roof is covered with grey slate, and the stone skews are present.

Inside, there is a central organ placed behind the pulpit, an arched gallery arcade, a ribbed ceiling, and timber pews, gallery, and furnishings. A rose tracery window is located on the entrance elevation, with a small rose window above the organ.

The site is enclosed by a coped boundary wall.
