Description

New Bridge in Ayr was built by Blyth and Cunningham between 1877 and 1879. This bridge, made of red sandstone, features a slightly humped design for both vehicles and pedestrians as it crosses the River Ayr. It has five segmental arches with voussoirs and round-nosed cutwaters. The spandrels are adorned with pilaster strips, and the bridge is topped with a quatrefoil parapet. There are also later additions of cast-iron lamp standards and square-plan plinths.
