Description

3 and 5 South Harbour Street in Ayr is an early 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay house that is part of a terrace overlooking the New Bridge. The building features painted render and has cill courses on the first and second floors, along with a corniced band course that separates these floors, which was once a cornice. The upper floors have tripartite openings, although the left section is blocked to the central bay.

The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central doorpiece with columns, a cornice, and a pediment. It includes a two-leaf timber door with a letterbox fanlight. To the right, there is a central entrance to a modern shopfront with flanking shop windows, and to the left, another central entrance leads to a shopfront with a two-leaf timber door, a deep letterbox fanlight, and flanking shop windows. The upper floors have regular fenestration.

The southwest elevation, known as the Boat Vennal, has five bays and also features regular fenestration on the first and second floors. The ground floor has modern shop windows, while the upper floors have plate glass timber sash and case windows, with some remaining 12-pane windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a rooflight, a corniced stack to the right, and circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1998.
