Description

83-89 George Street in Stranraer is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, four-bay T-plan house that features a shopfront on the ground floor. The entrance elevation is finished in painted render, while the sides are constructed from rubble. It has a base course, a corniced band course, channelled quoins, and a moulded pedimented doorpiece that breaks the corniced band course. The first floor has roll moulded windows with cill brackets.

On the north (entrance) elevation, there are entrances located at the outer left and left of centre, featuring timber and glass doors. A single window is positioned between the entrances on the left, while the outer right has one single window and a double-width window at ground level. The first floor exhibits regular fenestration. Notably, there is an extended depth and a cast-iron balcony at the penultimate window on the right side of the first floor.

The ground floor has modern glazing, while the first floor features plate glass timber sash and case windows, along with Velux rooflights. The roof is covered in grey slate and includes skews, gablehead, and apex coped rendered stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1997.
