1 New Road, Ayr

1 New Road in Ayr is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, single bay gusset building that features ground floor commercial premises. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar. On the southwest elevation, pilasters flank the ground floor openings, and there is a cornice above the shopfront. The openings have margins.

The southwest (entrance) elevation includes a two-leaf timber door to the right at ground floor level, with a shop window to the left. Above, there is a tripartite window with an architrave at the first floor, and a stack with a pediment above it.

On the southeast (side) elevation, there is a central square-headed entrance with a timber door and a letterbox fanlight. A single window is aligned above at the first floor, with flanking single windows on both floors, including an enlarged window on the ground floor to the left.

The west (Peebles Street) elevation is two-bay with regular fenestration on both floors, although there are blind bays to the right.

The building has modern timber windows, a grey slate roof, stone skews, and coped gablehead stacks with circular and polygonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998. Additionally, there are iron railings at the entrance elevation that sit atop a low coped boundary wall.
