Description
12 Newmarket Street in Ayr is a later 18th century tenement that was altered in the mid 19th century. It is three stories high and has three bays, with a shop located on the ground floor. The exterior is finished in painted render. The ground floor features a corniced shopfront from the mid 19th century, and the second floor windows extend through the eaves, creating gabled timber boarded dormers. The windows on the first and second floors have painted margins.
On the southeast elevation, the entrance features a central timber glazed door with a letterbox fanlight, flanked by shop windows. The first and second floors have regular window arrangements. The first floor has leaded casement windows, while the attic contains 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has coped brick stacks with circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
