Description
4 Newmarket Street in Ayr is a later 18th century, three-storey, three-bay gabled corner building featuring a shopfront on the ground floor. The exterior is finished in painted render, with a moulded eaves course on the west elevation and painted margins around the window openings on the first and second floors.
On the south elevation, the entrance is located to the left, featuring a modern glazed door, flanked by shop windows. To the outer right, there is a timber door, and the first and second floors have regular fenestration, with a larger window on the first floor to the outer right.
The west elevation, facing Hope Street, has five bays. The entrance is at the outer left on the ground floor, with a timber door, followed by four shop windows to the right. The first floor has five single windows, while the second floor has four single windows, with larger shop windows on the ground floor.
The building features 12-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and brick stacks. The interior was not seen in 1998.
