Description

The War Memorial in Wellington Square, Ayr, was designed by James Kennedy Hunter and constructed by H.H. Martyn & Co. of Cheltenham in 1924, with later additions. It features a stepped granite cenotaph with a square plan, centrally located in the gardens of Wellington Square. The memorial has steps leading up to all sides, tilted angle bronze plaques at the base, and bronze remembrance boards on the lower shaft. Above these, there is a ridged frieze, culminating in a tapering square apex.
