Dovecot, 35 Racecourse Road, Ayr

The Dovecot at 35 Racecourse Road in Ayr dates from around 1820 and has undergone some later alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay rectangular outbuilding that features a loft dovecot. The structure is built from rubble and has painted eaves courses, strip quoins, and various openings.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a square-headed entrance with a timber door. Above the door is a ball-finialed pediment that includes four flight holes in the tympanum. Flanking the entrance are porthole windows, and there are square-headed windows on the outer right and left sides, which were formerly entrances.

The northwest elevation features a central, infilled Venetian window, with infilled porthole windows on either side. The southeast elevation has a timber door located on the outer right. The northeast elevation was not visible during the 1999 inspection.

The building includes 16-pane timber sash and case windows and has a slate piend roof, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the 1999 inspection.
