Description
The Coach House at Pine Trees Hotel, located on Strathview Terrace in Pitlochry, was built in 1892. It features whitewashed coursed rubble with dressed quoins and is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular structure with a gabled roof and a dovecot.
The principal elevation is symmetrical, with a central cart arch that has a two-leaf boarded timber door and a later pedestrian door. Above the doors is a seven-part segmental fanlight, with each division designed in a pointed-arch style. The small three-tier dovecot includes a bracketed alighting ledge and has 18 flight holes in the gablehead, topped with a decorative cast-iron weathervane. The flanking bays each contain a bipartite window at ground level and a single window above, with the right side featuring a timber hayloft opening.
On the southeast elevation, there are two window openings at ground level, a gablehead in the centre, and a timber door to the outer right, situated below a low eaves line. This elevation also includes two traditional rooflights.
The northwest elevation has a small pitch-roofed timber porch with a door on the return to the right, located in the bay to the left of centre. There is a bipartite window on each floor to the right, with a broad gablehead above.
The northeast (rear) elevation is low and piend-roofed, featuring four segmental-arched windows in the centre and later square-headed windows in the flanking bays. At the centre of the roof valley behind the piend, there is a small ball-finialled, ogee-capped rectangular ventilator with round-headed louvered openings on each face.
The building has modern plate glass glazing in its windows, grey slate roofing, deeply overhanging eaves, and plain bargeboarding.
Inside, there is a covered yard at the centre with cobbled setts and a broad ridge rooflight.
