Description
The Courtyard at Alamount House Hotel, located on Coupar Angus Road in Blairgowrie, was built in 1866. It is a small, rectangular-plan service courtyard featuring both single and two-storey structures, complete with a dovecot. The exterior is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and harl, and includes a segmental cart arch and oculi.
On the northeast elevation, the tall dovecot is centrally positioned, featuring a timber door that infills the cart arch, with a carriage lamp above and a decorative cast-iron finial on the roof ridge to the right. The lower flanking bays include a timber door and an oculus on the right, leading to a piend-roofed bay with a wallhead stack at the outer right. The left bay has an oculus on the right side, with the rear of the house abutting at the outer left.
The southeast elevation of the courtyard has a cart arch at the center, leading to an alighting ledge and three flight holes, with a small four-pane window close to the eaves above. To the right, there is a square window in a low bay, and to the left, an oculus with a timber door beyond.
On the northwest elevation, there is a low piended bothy to the left, featuring a timber door and a bipartite window on the outer left. Immediately to the right is a further part-glazed door, followed by a pend door on the outer right. The taller bays to the right have full-width timber garage doors and a gablehead with a hayloft door at the outer right, which abuts a walled garden.
The southwest elevation features a broad two-leaf timber door to the left and a window to the right. The northeast elevation of the courtyard has an asymmetrically-fenestrated design with a door to the outer left. The southeast range adjoins the house.
On the northwest courtyard elevation, there are single-storey bays to the left of center, with a door and window to the right, and two windows to the left. To the right of center are two-storey rubble bays with two windows at ground level and a low link projecting at the outer right, along with three first-floor windows that break the eaves into a piended dormerhead.
The building features a variety of small pane and plate glass glazing patterns, some of which are in timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with some cans.
