Description
The YWCA building on William Street in Blairgowrie is a two-storey, three-bay structure built in the 1930s, showcasing Art Deco style. It features a combination of harl and brick, with a brick base course and eaves course.
The principal elevation is symmetrical, with a slightly advanced central bay. This bay has a broad, deep-set timber door at the ground level, leading up to a cantilevered balcony that has an ironwork railing. Above, there is an original French window that breaks the eaves into a blocking course, which displays 'YWCA' in ironwork lettering. The flanking bays each contain a horizontal tripartite window on both floors.
On the southeast elevation, there is a gabled bay to the left, which has two small windows at ground level and a single window above. To the right, a lower block features three windows.
The building retains its original horizontal 9-pane glazing pattern in the Crittal windows and a 6-pane glazing pattern in the French window on the southwest side, while other windows have been replaced with small-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a brick stack with cans. The eaves are deeply overhanging with plain bargeboarding.
Inside, there is a timber-balustered dog-leg staircase and a hall that retains Art Deco door handles on the two-leaf panelled timber doors. The roof features a steel tie-beam and a stage.
