Description

Wheatfield House is a classical rectangular-plan house built around 1795, featuring two storeys and a basement, with a three-bay facade and a single-storey wing that forms an L-shape to the southeast. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, showcasing an eaves course, cornice, blocking course, strip margins, and margins around the window openings.

The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a slightly advanced central bay with steps leading up to a Doric columned doorpiece. This door is made of timber and topped with a decorative letterbox fanlight. Above the door, there is a single window aligned with it on the first floor, and flanking windows on both the ground and first floors in the recessed outer bays. To the left, the single-storey cottage wing has a single window, with another window on the return to the left.

On the southwest side elevation, there are three single windows and a timber door leading to the single-storey cottage wing, along with a timber glazed opening and a single window above on the gable to the left.

The northwest rear elevation features three single windows in the wing on the outer right, two basement windows in the left and center of the main house, five ground floor windows, and two first floor windows on the outer right and left.

The northeast side elevation includes a small window opening and a timber door at the gablehead.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a slate piend roof, with a gablehead stack on the single-storey wing and end stacks on the main house, both featuring polygonal cans. It also has cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999.

To the southeast of the site, there is a walled garden that includes a sundial on a stepped, square-plan plinth, along with square-plan gatepiers, an iron gate, and a stretch of garden wall topped with iron railings.

The gatepiers at the vehicular entrance are square-plan, with a timber door for the pedestrian entrance, and the boundary wall encloses the site. There is also a wheat panel set within the screen wall to the right of the house.
