Sherringhurst, 2 Wheatfield Road, Ayr

Sherringhurst is a villa located at 2 Wheatfield Road in Ayr, built in 1888. This two-storey, four-bay villa features a near L-plan design with a corner polygonal tower. It is constructed from red squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. The building has a battered, banded base course, a ground floor cill course, and a bracketed eaves course.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are steps leading to a recessed gabled entrance porch on the outer right. This porch contains an architraved doorpiece with a keyblock dated 1888 and an ornate console to the right, leading to a two-leaf timber door. To the right, there is a circular four-window corner bay that rises to a corbelled octagonal tower at the first floor, topped with a triglyph entablature and a circular roof featuring an iron finial at the apex. The central bay has single windows on both the ground and first floors, while the outer left has an advanced four-light rectangular window on the ground floor and a three-light window aligned above it at the first floor.

The southeast and northeast elevations were not visible in 1999. The northwest elevation displays irregular fenestration on both the ground and first floors. The villa features timber windows, a slate roof with coped stacks and circular cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The property also includes circular stone gatepiers on the outer right and left, with a two-leaf iron gate for vehicular access on the left and a single iron gate for pedestrian access on the right. The boundary is marked by a banded, stepped stone wall with railings atop the lower sections.
