Description
5 and 5A Barns Street is a mid-19th century, two-storey and attic house that is part of a terrace. The building is constructed of painted ashlar and features a vermiculated base course, a cill course on the first floor, a cornice, and a blocking course. The window openings have architraves, and there are cill blocks beneath the ground floor windows.
On the north elevation, there is a doorpiece with a cornice and block pediment, located to the outer right. The door is made of timber and has a letterbox fanlight above it. To the left of the door, there is a single window at ground level, with regular fenestration on the first floor. A near-central single dormer is present in the attic.
The ground floor window has a six-pane upper sash, while the first and attic floors feature modern windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a rooflight, a stone skew, and a coped stack to the left with circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998. Additionally, there are spear-headed railings at the entrance.
