Norway House, Main Street, Scalloway

Norway House, located on Main Street in Scalloway, is an early 20th-century building that was originally a sail loft. It is two stories tall with an attic and has a layout of eight by two bays. The lower storey is harled, while the upper structure is timber-framed and clad in corrugated iron, situated on a site that slopes to the south.

On the south gable facing Main Street, there is a modern sliding door positioned to the right of centre at ground level, flanked by three-pane fixed lights on the left and two-pane fixed lights on the right. The first floor features bipartite windows on both sides, with a large window to the left and a smaller one to the right in the gablehead.

The west elevation, which faces Ladysmith Road, is near-symmetrical, with a narrow window located only on the outer right at ground level and a regularly-fenestrated upper floor. The north gable has corrugated iron cladding at the gablehead above a modernised harled wall.

At the first floor, there are six-pane windows with top hoppers, all having timber surrounds and cills. The roof is covered with fishscale pattern felt tiles and features a platform ridge.
