22 The Green, Swinton

22 The Green in Swinton is a later 18th century cottage with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure that is part of a terrace facing the green. The exterior is dry-dashed with painted margins and projecting cills. At the rear, there is a single-storey, three-bay rectangular ancillary structure known as a but-and-ben.

On the northwest entrance elevation, there is a replacement door that is offset to the left of center, with single windows in the flanking bays. The southeast rear elevation was not visible in 1998.

The front features 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. The roof is steeply pitched with grey slate and raised skews. There is a brick ridge stack on the northeast side, which may be shared with No 23, although the cans are missing.

The interior was not seen in 1998.

The ancillary structure is made of harl-pointed red sandstone rubble with long and short sandstone dressings. The southeast entrance elevation has a boarded timber door offset to the right of center, with single windows in the flanking bays. The southwest side elevation features a boarded timber door at ground level offset to the left of center, with a single window centered in the gable head and a ball finial on top. The windows include 12- and 16-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with a 2-pane upper and boarded lower attic light. The roof is vented grey slate with raised stone skews and cast-iron rainwater goods. Inside, there are original cobbled floors, rubble walls, boarded timber ceilings, and fireplaces/hearths still in place.
